Festive fun for toddlersPosted: 21/11/2014
A selection of our favourite tried and tested Christmas activities for toddlers (and grown ups!) to enjoy this festive season.
I may be getting just a little excited about Christmas. It will be BabyGirl’s first, which is always special, and ToddlerGirl is old enough this year to really understand what’s going on. I can’t wait! I love the build up through the month of December as much as the day itself, so will be attempting to fit in various festive crafts, games and other activities with ToddlerGirl. Here are our top ten favourites from previous years.
1. Activity Advent Calendar
Kicking it all off is the activity advent calendar, a great way to keep track of all the fun festive activities you have planned! I’ve kept ours pretty simple over the last couple of years and it’s worked really well. Find a free template for your own advent calendar cards, plus other ideas from around the web.
2. Rosie the Reindeer pretend play
Rosie the Reindeer is our own version of Elf on the Shelf and Dinovember! A perfect activity to inspire the imagination, ToddlerGirl delighted in her antics last year. I’m sure she will be hugely excited to see her again in December!
3. Snowy Christmas sensory bin
A simple, Christmassy sensory bin for an afternoon of silly, snowy fun.
4. Find the snowmen
ToddlerGirl absolutely adored this ‘find the snowmen’ sensory bin with an investigative twist. I’m betting she’ll love it just as much this year!
5. Christmas tree matching puzzle
A DIY festive puzzle, with free printable to download.
6. Christmas present wrapping activity
ToddlerGirl loved getting stuck in to this invitation to play with a gift wrapping station. (Part of my Five festive ways to play post.)
7. Christmas post pretend play
Sorting and posting Christmas mail and great for an afternoon of imaginative play, with a special Christmas delivery to all ToddlerGirl’s toys! (Part of my Five festive ways to play post.)
8. Making Christmas prints
A fun Christmas printing activity – and the results can make lovely homemade gift tags or Christmas cards. (Part of my Five festive ways to play post.)
9. Indoor snow day
Just So Much Fun! Our indoor snow day has lots of snowy-themed activities, including indoor sleigh rides, ‘snowball’ fights and a snowy tree sticky window craft.
10. Christmas book collection
We love books in our house and there are some fabulous festive reads in this Christmassy book selection for toddlers.
There’s plenty there to keep us busy through December, although I may try to squeeze in some other ideas from my Winter Wonderful Pinterest board!
